Poem: Gilded Shaft

Sunlight through dark and twisted trees
Sunlight through dark and twisted trees

Gilded shaft of sun cast spear

pierce deep ‘twixt gnarling oak

the woodland’s ever brooding heart

I composed this poem whilst walking through the woods near my home, taking my dog for a walk on a peaceful Sunday morning. The still low sunlight was sloping in between the trees and making blades of light in the misty morning air. I found it quite magical. My dog, however, remained unimpressed.
